Scorpion tyre family is shining

The latest redesign of the Scorpion product family for SUVs turns out to be safer, more comfortable, and powerful.

The entire Pirelli product family, which recently received a complete redesign of summer, winter, and all-season tyres, achieved a better score for all the performance parameters of the EU Tyre Label. The Scorpion Summer Tyre, the Scorpion Winter 2 as well as the Scorpion All Season SF2 are characterized by good driving behaviour on wet roads. All the three tyres are successors of the original Scorpion, which was first launched in 1986 and has continuously been redesigned in order to adapt to increasingly demanding requirements of modern SUVs. A total of nearly 90 homologations, which the product range has already achieved, is a further proof of this.

Good label ratings

The outstanding wet grip of all the three members of the product family is worth mentioning: All the different sizes belong to the ratings A or B, which are at the top of the EU Tyre Label. Even more than 80 per cent find themselves in class A. In the category of rolling resistance, more than 60 per cent of the Scorpion range of products are in class A or B: This is an indicator of efficiency, which is essential for the protection of our environment and offers an important contribution to the mileage of electric vehicles.

The current range of tyre products has already moved Pirelli closer to its goal for the year 2025 to have 70 per cent of its products in the rolling resistance classes A and B. Concerning the Scorpion Sommer and the Scorpion All Season SF2 already 100 per cent of the product range are in rolling resistance classes A or B. With regard to the category of noise emission, the tyres of the three Scorpion variations also got top ratings: 100 per cent belong to class A or B.

Due to the redesign of the whole range of products, Pirelli received the certificate “Tyre Performance Mark”, which is issued by TÜV Süd (German Technical Inspection Association). This certificate is only assigned to tyres, which belong to the best in the market based on numerous different driving situations. The TÜV Süd Tyre Performance Mark is evidence of outstanding performance and trustworthiness when buying tyres.

In the current economic situation, the tyre manufacturer was as well able to rethink the reliability of its supply chain. The whole Scorpion range of products is produced in factories within the European Union.

Growing SUV segment

According to information from the manufacturer, the recent redesign of the Scorpion product family happened as as response to an expanding SUV segment, which is still is expected to have a continuous growth within the next years. These vehicles are characterized by high empty weight and a high centre of gravity. This causes specific driving dynamics, which can only be provided by special tyres being able to meet the latest standards of present and future mobility.

Some sizes of the Scorpion family do not only fulfill high standards of comfort, safety, and performance, but are also optimized for the use of electrified SUVs. About 30 per cent of series are equipped with Elect Technology, which was especially developed for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Thus, the Scorpion stands for the Pirelli product portfolio with the highest number of homogolations for vehicles with electric drive.

Sustainability and safety

Together with Seal Inside, Run Flat and the Pirelli Noise Cancelling System (PNCS), Elect is a technological specialty from Pirelli. More than three thirds of the Scorpion tyres are equipped with these technologies. They provide comfortable and noise-reduced driving based on optimum PNCS and thus, guarantee continuous driving even in the case of having a perforation of the tyre with an external object.

The three latest models of the Scorpion range of products were developed with a procedure called Eco-Safety Design by Pirelli. This approach makes use of innovative materials and tools  including virtual models from motorsports in order to achieve ultimate performance in the areas of sustainbility and safety. According to information from Pirelli, the Eco-Safety Design enables reliable braking performance and grip on wet roads for tyres. This increases not only safety, but also reduces environmental impacts.
