The companies and institutions of this alliance would like to act as driving force together with all players of the labour market – politics, administration, and social partners – to generate pragmatic solutions and to define an appropriate framework in an active and cooperative way. Thus, employment is to be guaranteed, and structural transformation is to be carried out together. Currently, the companies involved in the alliance represent more than one million employees.

The challenges of digitalization, climate change and shortage of skilled workers have already caused a disruption of the working world. Digital technologies accelerate and simplify many processes. At the same time, new business areas have been emerging. Climate change and climate targets have forced many companies to question their existing business models and to partly reorganize them completely. This has had a huge impact on workplaces, employment, and need for work force. Traditional job profiles have disappeared. At the same time, new employment chances have emerged. These changes may cause insecurities among employees whose curriculum vitae no longer fit well to requirements of new, open workplaces.
“Social peace in the country at stake”
“Germany will have to deal with the next big industrial revolution. Digitalization, tighter regulations for climate protection, and technological disruptions: Due to the transformation, many employees will lose their jobs. We will only be able to avoid this together. Thus, so far 26 companies and institutions have joined forces and founded the Alliance of Chances. We at Continental are proud to be among the founding members. Only together with our social partners and across all industries we will be able to create the structural transformation of the labour market. We will only achieve this together to make use of the chances for new workplaces. We will have to design the transformation in a sustainable and above all socially acceptable way. We are not only talking about our future, but about the future of our country, about Germany’s future as business location. And social peace in our country will be at stake too”, says the chairperson of the circle of speakers of the Alliance of Chances, Dr. Ariane Reinhart, Board Member for Human Resources and Sustainability at Continental.
